RMD Says He Has Never Kissed Sola Sobowale; Wants to Kiss Her on Set

Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) expressed surprise that he had never kissed top-tier Yoruba actress Sola Sobowale. RMD said he and Sobowale had been in the Nigerian movie industry for over 37 years but had never kissed on set despite playing couple roles on several occasions.

He said he hopes to kiss the fair-complexioned woman within the next 10 years in front of a camera.

RMD made this disclosure during an interview session with Sobowale to promote their latest flick, Kemi Adetiba’s King of Boys 2 in which Sobowale acted as king and underworld warlord. Both actors had featured in the movie, which also premiered on Netflix, the first Nigerian film to feature on the movie-streaming service.

In response to a particular question, RMD said he met Sobowale in 1984 at Surulere in Tade Ogidan’s residence. He said he had gone on to play several movie scenes with the buxom Yoruba lady since the 37 years they had known each other, but they had never acted a scene where they kissed. He said he still hopes to kiss her one day.

“We met about 37 years ago, in 1984, Surulere, at Tade Ogidan’s place,” RMD recalled. “We have played husband and wife several times, and it hit me the other day that I have never kissed you in a movie. Hopefully, we will get to kiss as Reverend Ifeanyi and the king; I want to be able to kiss the king.”

RMD, an Urhobo man from Warri in Delta State, said he is presently 60 years old and hopes to continue acting in movies beyond the age of 70. He said he hopes to have achieved his desire of locking lips with Sobowale in a movie role before he clocks 70.

“In 10 years, I will be 70 and my prayers will be that we will still be doing this,” RMD told Sobowale directly. “There will still be some springs in our steps and I will finally get to kiss you.”
