Nasarawa Governor Sacks All Commissioners, Special Advisers, and Special Assistants

The governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has sacked all political appointees in the state.

Sule fired all members of the State Executive Council (SEC) which comprised commissioners, special advisers, senior special advisers, special assistants, and senior special assistants.

With the termination of appointments, the former SEC members are expected to vacate their offices immediately and hand over government property in their possession.

The governor thanked the former members of his cabinet for their contributions to the upliftment of Nasarawa State during under his administration.

Although no reason was advanced for the dissolution of the cabinet, an insider source said most of the cabinet was recommended by former governors of the state.

The source said the governor might constitute a new cabinet before the October 6 local government elections in the state. He noted that the new appointees will serve with the governor to the end of his tenure in 2023.

“We all know that most of the political appointees in this state were recommended by past governors of the state,” the source said. “So, I believe that he is sacking them to bring his foot soldiers into the political system before the commencement of the local government elections on October 6 and the governorship election in 2023 because he has been getting endorsement across the state to continue as governor.”

The anonymous source said the governor might reappoint some of the sacked appointees, setting off a frenzy of lobbying across the state.

The source said some of those likely to be reappointed include the Commissioner for Information, the Commissioner for Education, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

There had been rumours that Gov. Sule might dissolve his cabinet before his trip to the United States a few weeks ago. And with his return to the state came the actual dissolution, prompting speculations that the decision was finalized during his trip outside the country.

However, anxiety is high as the entire state awaits the decision of the governor to appoint his new administrative team.
