The 2021 version of AFCON – held in 2022 – just concluded with Senegal coming out as winners. As the world celebrates with the West African country, we take a look at the previous winners of this prestigious trophy.
The AFCON was first played in 1957, since then, there’s been a total of 33 AFCON champions. While some African countries have won the trophy multiple times, others have won it just once while many others are yet to lift it. In fact, 2021 was the first time Senegal would win the AFCON in the over 60 years of its institution.
