Buhari Arrives To New York For 76th UN General Assembly Conference

President Muhammadu Buhari has landed New York at about 4 pm local time for the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA76). He touched ground at the JF Kennedy International Airport with a retinue of top-level government officials, Thisday reports.

Some of the personalities that accompanied the president on the trip are Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Minister of State for Environment, Sharon Ikeazor; National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd).

Others are the Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar; Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.

The theme for this year’s conference is Building Resilience Through Hope – To Recover from COVID-19, Rebuild Sustainably, Respond to the Needs of the Planet, Respect the Rights of People and Revitalise the United Nations. The conference began on Tuesday, September 14 but President Buhari will be addressing the participants on Friday, September 24.

According to the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media Matters, Femi Adesina, Buhari will speak on global issues as they relate COVID-19, climate change, and human rights. He will also hold meetings with leaders from other nations on Reparations, Racial Justice and Equality for People of African Descent as well as food security, elimination of nuclear weapons, sustainable energy, and global security among others.

The president and his entourage will return to Nigeria on Sunday, September 26.
