The funeral ceremony of veteran Nollywood actress, Rachel Oniga, is currently underway in Lagos State. In a statement released by her family, Oniga’s sister Deaconess Toyin Odusote said the late actress’ funeral service will be a private family affair. A programme of events was also released to show the series of event planned for the ceremony, thewillnigeria reports.
The funeral ceremony which started on Monday, August 23, will last for one week.
Friends of the deceased and a coalition of NGOs organized a symposium in her memory at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Alausa-Ikeja, on Monday.
A Service of Songs is billed to hold at the Catholic Church of Resurrection, Abayomi Owulade Avenue, Magodo Phase 2, on Thursday, August 26, at 4:30 pm.
On Friday, August 27, a lying-in-state will be held at the Catholic Church of Resurrection in Magodo at 9:30 a.m. and then a mass will hold, followed by the interment of the deceased. The interment will be a private affair and only family members will be allowed to attend, Odusote said.
“Please note that all events should be attended strictly by invitation,” she stated. “This is so because of the particular number of people we are allowed to admit due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, all events will be streamed live on different social media platforms. We will sincerely appreciate it if you join us online, as we honour our mother. All attendees must observe all COVID-19 protocols, please.”
Reception of guests will take place at the Grandeur Events Centre in Oregun, Ikeja, at 2 pm on Friday after the interment is over.
Rachel Oniga was a prominent Yoruba actress and starred in more than 100 Nollywood movies. She was a talented and A-list actress who could play almost any roles. She passed away on July 30 after a brief illness. She was aged 64.
