1. Adekunle Gold 

Adekunle Gold was born on the 28th of January 1987. The former YBNL signee is one of the most successful Nigerian musicians from the 2010s era till date. AG Baby has dropped countless hits including Orente, Pick Up, Ariwo Ko, Call On Me, Something Different, and Okay to name a few. He’s put out 3 commercially successful albums in 2016, 2018, and 2020. Adekunle Gold has worked with several Nigerian artists including Wizkid, Kizz Daniel, Olamide, Simi, Omah Lay, etc. The talented singer is married to Simi and the couple welcomed a child in 2020.

2. 9ice

When mentioning pioneers of the current Nigerian music industry, 9ice would be in the discussion. 9ice has been active since the year 2000 and his 2008 hit sing Gongo Aso will still turn up any party where it’s played anytime any day. The Yoruba singer was born on 17th January 1980. Aside from Gongo Aso, 9ice has released other hit songs like Street Credibility, No Be Mistake, and Living things. Over the course of his career, he’s worked with other stars including 2Face, Wizkid, Davido, Sound Sultan, and Olamide. In 2008 when his hit single dropped, he won the MOBO award for Best African Act.

3. Cobhams 

Cobhams Asuquo isn’t just a talented singer but also a super producer. For emphasis, he produced arguably the biggest song of Banky W’s career – Strong Thing. Despite being visually impaired, the singer pushed beyond the limits to make it as a Nigerian and International music superstar. Aside from Banky W, Cobhams has also worked with Omawumi, Asa, Waje, etc. Notably, he co-wrote some of Asa’s biggest songs including Jailer and Fire On The Mountain. In fact, he played a major role in the making of the ASA album. Cobhams Asuquo was born on the 6th of January 1981. 

4. Seun Kuti 

Seun Kuti is the youngest son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti. He’s currently in charge of the Egypt 80 band which was formerly led by his father. Seun plays the saxophone and since the start of his musical career he has put out 6 studio albums with his Egypt 80 band, the first coming in 2008. Aside from being a musician, Seun Kuti has been very active in politics as he always shares his voice whenever it is needed. The talented musician was born on the 11th of January 1983. He’s worked with several Nigerian musicians and along with his band, he was nominated for the Grammys in 2018. 

5. YCee

In 2015, YCee took the Nigerian music industry by storm with these 3 singles – Condo, Jagaban, and Omo Alhaji. With time, he was one of the best rappers in Nigeria. He won the Headies award for Rookie of the year in 2016 and the Afrimma Award for Best African Hip-Hop in 2017. The rapper has put out one studio album and 2 EPs since he started his career. He’s dropped other hit songs like Link Up, Say Bye Bye, Danny, and the 2017 smash hit song, Juice. YCee has worked with Olamide, Davido, Maleek Berry, Ms Banks, and Falz amongst others. He was born on 29th January 1993. 

6. Oritse Femi

The Musical Taliban, Oritse Femi was born on the 5th of January 1985. The singer has been active for a long time, before 2006 when he was part of the Junglist Boys. He released the songs Flog Politician and Elewon and that was the start of his individual career. Later on, he dropped the Flog Politician album which was a commercial success in Nigeria. In 2010, he dropped Double Wahala which is his hottest single till date. Oritse Femi has won a Headies award, City People Entertainment Award, and Nigerian Entertainment Awards.

7. Ric Hassani

Ric Hassani is a Nigerian soul and pop singer. He went mainstream in Nigeria in 2016 when he released his debut album The African Gentleman. The song Believe off hod album produced a remix that featured Olamide and Falz and went on to win the Galaxy Music Award for Best Collaboration. Ric Hassani dropped his sophomore album The Prince I Became in 2021 and the song Thunder Fire You has been all over the radio waves. He was born on the 6th of January 1989. 

8. Wurld 

The black singer you see with blue hair on TV – that’s Wurld. He’s a soul and electronic singer and one of the movers in the Alté music industry in Nigeria. Wurld has been active since 2012 but he majorly dominated the Nigerian music scene in 2019 when he worked with Sarz to release the I love girls with Trobul album. He has worked with Davido, Walshy Fire, Major Lazer, and Akon to name a few. Wurld was born on the 2nd of January 1987. 

9. Chike 

Chike, The Boo Of The Booless, might just be the lastest musicians on this list. The talented singer was a Top 10 finalist in the Project Fame West Africa show and a runner-up at the Voice Nigeria. Chike dropped his debut album, Boo of the Booless in 2020 which attracted him a lot of fans from far and wide; especially the female fans. To many Nigerians, his album was the best out of the country that year. He was born on January 28, 1993. 

10. Lola Rae

Last on this list is the beautiful Lola Rae. Lola is a talented Nigerian singer who has been active since 2010. Born on the 20th of January 1991, this singer has worked with several Nigerian stars including Tiwa Savage, Ice Prince, and Iyanya. Some of her commercially successful singles include Fi Mi Le and One Time.
