1. Aliko Dangote 

When you hear “Dangote”, you know that money is involved. For a long time now, Aliko Dangote has been the richest man in Nigeria and Africa. Not just that, he’s also the richest black man in the World. The billionaire who is worth over $11 billion as at 2021 was born on 10th April 1957. Aliko Dangote started his venture into business a long time ago, in 1977 when he launched Dangote Group. Currently Dangote makes his money off businesses involving cement, food consumables, and freight. He was awarded Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) during the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

2. John Obi Mikel 

In the 2000s to 2010s era, Mikel Obi was among the most popular and best players for the super Eagles. He made the most of his name when he played for Chelsea from. 2006 to 2017. Over the course of his career, Mikel won 2 premier league, 3 FA Cups, 1 UEFA Champions League, and 1 UEFA Europa League. With Nigeria, he won the AFCON in 2013 – he was the Super Eagles Captain in that tournament. The talented midfielder who has made close to 500 professional career appearances was born on the 22nd of April 1987. 

3. Ini Edo

A lot of us grew up watching this beautiful actress on our TV screens. Ini Edo who launched her career in 2000 is one of the most renowned Nollywood actresses of all time. She was born on the 23 of April 1982. The talented actress has a filmography of more than 100 movies. She’s won 8 awards including the 2009 Best Of Nollywood Awards for Best Actress Leading Role and the 2012 Golden Icons Academy Movie Honorarium Appreciation Award. In 2016, she was appointed by the Governor of Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel, as his special assistant on Culture and Tourism. 

4. Mike Adenuga

It seems April is the month of the RICH!! Mike Adenuga who is the second richest man in Nigeria after Dangote and the third richest man in Africa was born on the 29th of April 1953. He’s worth about $5.7 billion and is the owner of Globacom (Glo) which is the second largest mobile network provider in Nigeria. Just like Dangote, Mike Adenuga received the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger during the Goodluck Jonathan administration. He’s the recipient of several other awards the French President in 2018 gave him the insignia of a Commander of the Legion of Honour.

5. Simi 

Nigerian singer and song-writer Simisola Kosovo, aka Simi, is one of the celebrities born in April. Simi has been active for a long time but in 2014, she took over the airways with her song “Tiff”. Since then, the talented singer hasn’t looked back. She’s controlled the airways on occasions too numerous to count with songs like Soldier with Falz, Joromi, Jamb Question, Love Don’t Care, Lovin (this writer’s favorite), and the smash-hit Duduke, to name but a few. The beautiful singer was born on 19th April 1988. Simi is also a mother after she put to bed in May 2020.

6. Taye Taiwo 

Taye Taiwo was born on 16th April 1985. He’s a professional footballer who has played for different clubs across Europe and America. Taye Taiwo is one of the best players Nigeria has ever had and he’s the best in his position – defense. To show how good he was, he won the bronze for the 3rd best player in the 2005 U-20 World Cup behind Mikel Obi and Lionel Messi.  He’s played in Ligue 1 for Marseille, Serie A for Ac Milan, and the Premier League for Queens Park Rangers amongst other clubs. For a defender, he’s scored over 40 goals in his career. 

7. Omawumi 

Omawumi is a singer and songwriter who has been active since 2007. That year, she was the runner-up at the West African Idols competition. OmaWonder as she’s also called is one of the most naturally gifted Nigeria has seen. It’s difficult to point out up to 2 mainstream Nigerian singers with a better voice than her. She scored hits with songs like “If You Ask Me” and “Bottom Belle” which featured Flavour. Omawumi has released 3 studio albums along with an EP over the course of her career.

8. Kcee 

There was a time when you switch to any radio or TV station, you’ll hear the song “Limpopo”. In 2014, Kcee released one of the biggest hits in the Nigerian music industry with that song. Kcee started his musical career in 2013 and currently works with Five Star Music. Aside from Limpopo, Kcee has scored hits with songs like Okepeke (the remix featuring Davido), Pull Over featuring Wizkid, Give it to me featuring Flavour, Fine Face, Okoso, and more. He’s also put out multiple studio albums. Kcee was born on 18th April 1979.

9. Skales 

During the reigning days of Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), Skales along with Wizkid and Banky W disturbed the Nigerian airwaves. Many don’t know but Skales started his musical career as a rapper but later switched to singing which he has maintained ever since. His name SKALES was derived as an acronym from Seek Knowledge Acquire Large Entrepreneurial Skills. Skales has created hits with songs like Shake Body and I Am For Real, and he’s dropped three studio albums excluding the Empire Mates State of Mind compilation albums. 

10. Alexx Ekubo 

Last on the list of Nigerian celebrities born in April is handsome Alexa Ekubo. Alex’s is a model and actor. He finished as runner up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition. He’s also a stylist and he was born on the 10th of April 1986. Alexx Ekubo has starred in many movies and some include The First Lady, Diary of a Lagos Girl, Bling Lagosians, Your Excellency, and A Man for the Weekend.
